AI animation for kids' YouTube channels

For: YouTube creators making animated stories, bedtime tales and gentle learning videos for young children.

In shortVIA turns a children's story script into a finished animated video. Each character gets one picture and one voice used in every scene, the story's world is set up once as places it returns to, and the camera is directed the way cartoons are filmed, so a series stays recognisable from episode to episode.

The problem kids’ channels have with AI video

Young viewers follow characters, not plots. When the hero’s colour changes between scenes, when a friend has a new face, or when the garden is suddenly a different garden, the story stops making sense to a child. Most AI video tools make one clip at a time and forget the last one, so a cast drifts within a single episode, never mind across a series.

Animals add their own trap: AI drawings tend to give a shrimp or a duck human hands.

How VIA solves it

  • One picture and one voice per character, used in every scene they are in.
  • One world, with the corners the story moves through set up as places, so every scene happens in the same garden, forest or town.
  • Cartoon directing: the camera changes from line to line, close on a face for a feeling, wide for a journey, low when a small hero looks up at something big.
  • Bodies that fit the animal: claws, wings and feelers, not hands.
  • Plain-words changes: say what is wrong with a picture and VIA draws another, keeping every version.

What a production looks like

“Lulu and the Lost Duckling” is a short 3D-animated story: a little shrimp helps a lost duckling find his mother. Three voiced characters, one garden with six places in it, 16 scenes, a little over a minute. See the case study.

Where it is not a fit

Fast action with many characters touching at once is still the hardest thing for AI video, so keep those beats simple. And children’s content deserves a grown-up’s eye on the finished film before it is posted.

Questions

Can each character have their own voice?

Yes. A narrator and every speaking character get a voice of their own, chosen once and used for all their lines.

Will the characters look the same in the next episode?

Characters and places are kept with the channel, so the next episode can start from the same cast and world instead of drawing them again.

What look can the animation have?

The look is a setting on the project, for example 3D animation, a soft cartoon or a picture-book style. The same studio draws all of them.

Other use cases

Make AI video people actually want to watch.
